What e-learning localization involves

E-learning localization is adapting a finished course for learners in another language. The text is translated, and then the course is rebuilt: slides resized, audio and captions replaced, images with text redone, and quizzes tested so they still score correctly.

Storyline exports most slide text for translation as XLIFF or Word, but not everything. Player labels, text inside images, video captions and some trigger conditions need separate work, and that's where most localized courses break.

What we localize in a course

Everything a learner sees or hears, including what Storyline's export leaves out.

  • Slide text and player

Slide text translated through Storyline's XLIFF or Word export, plus the player menu, buttons and notes translated in the player settings.

  • Layout fixes after import

Text boxes, buttons and callouts resized slide by slide, so nothing is cut off or overlaps once the translation is in.

  • Audio and captions

Captions translated and re-timed, or new voice-over recorded in each language and synced to the slide timeline.

  • Images and screenshots

Text inside images, diagrams and software screenshots replaced, in the source files where you have them.

  • Quizzes and variables

Question banks, feedback layers and result slides translated, with variables and triggers checked so scoring still works.

  • Rise 360 courses

Rise courses translated through its XLIFF export and checked block by block, including labeled graphics and knowledge checks.

What we test before delivery

The problems learners report most in translated courses, and the reason we click through every slide.

  • Cut-off text. Buttons, labels and callouts that overflow once the translation is longer.
  • Untranslated player text. Labels such as Next, Prev, Submit and Menu left in English.
  • Text inside images. Diagrams and screenshots still showing English.
  • Audio out of sync. Animations and captions that no longer match new voice-over.
  • Broken quizzes. Feedback in the wrong language, or a result slide that doesn't score.

How a course localization runs

You get a fixed quote that lists the media work as well as the translation.

  1. Send the source

Send the .story files or share the Rise course, with fonts, audio scripts and any images with text in them.

  2. Export and quote

We export the text, count the words, list the media that needs work and send a fixed quote.

  3. Translate and rebuild

Linguists translate. Then developers import the translation into a copy of the course and fix each slide.

  4. Test every slide

A native speaker clicks through every slide, layer and quiz, checking text, audio sync and scoring.

    Second check QA
  5. Publish and deliver

We publish SCORM or xAPI packages, test them in a SCORM test environment, and send the source files.

Questions about e-learning localization

Can you localize Articulate Storyline courses?

Yes. We export the slide text as XLIFF or Word, translate it, import it into a copy of your project, then fix the layout, player text, images, audio and quizzes slide by slide.

Do you test the course in an LMS?

We publish each language as a SCORM or xAPI package and test it in a SCORM test environment. If you give us access to a test area in your own LMS, we test there too.

What about text inside images and videos?

We replace text in images and screenshots, working in the source files where you have them. For videos, we translate and re-time the captions, or replace on-screen text if you send the video project files.

Can you replace the voice-over?

Yes. We can record new voice-over in each language and sync it to the slide timeline, or keep the original audio and add translated captions.

Which files do you need from us?

For Storyline, the .story project files, fonts and any audio scripts. For Rise, share the course with us or send the XLIFF export. Source files for images with text help a lot.

How do you price e-learning localization?

By word count, plus the media work: slides to fix, images to redo, and minutes of audio or video. The quote lists each part, so you can see what drives the cost.

Send us a course to localize

Send the .story file or share your Rise course with the languages you need. We list what needs work and send a fixed quote.
